ALPHA COURSE

Children's Liturgy Training

Please join us for our training morning for children's liturgy catechists on Saturday, 7th October, 10 am - 12 noon in the parish centre. New volunteers very welcome. Mary Crowley, Catechetical Adviser at the Agency for Evangelisation, Diocese of Westminster will give an overview of the structure of the Bible before focusing on different methods we can use during children's liturgy. Special Collection - CAFOD

CAFOD works with poor communities overseas on our behalf, helping them to tackle poverty and injustice. There will be a special collection at all Masses this weekend. Thank you for your continued support and generosity.

Christmas Fair Saturday 25th November , 12 noon - 3 pm

Please join us for our 2nd Christmas Fair Committee meeting in the parish hall after 10 am Mass on Sunday 22 October. Looking for volunteers to brainstorm; run a stall; help set up; help tidy up; etc. Please add your name to sign up sheets at the Church entrance. First Holy Communion 2018

We invite all children of our parish who are in Year 3+ to make their First Communion with us next May. The course starts with three sessions before Christmas to rehearse the Nativity Play for Christmas Eve and will continue after Christmas with lessons from 9-10 am every Sunday morning followed by Family Mass. Application forms available from Sandra Lipner after 10 am Mass.

New Altar Servers

Our new altar servers will be serving together with our experienced servers until Christmas, please keep them in your prayers during their time of learning.

Grange Big Local Festival – Sunday 8th October 2017

We are invited to the Grange Big Local Fun Palace, Sunday 8 Oct., 12-4 pm, on Oak Lane N2 8LT. It is a free community festival with live music. Activities include arts and crafts, science experiments, dance, cooking, Thai kick-boxing, circus skills and nail painting. The festival is free.

SVP Quiz Night – Saturday 14th October 2017

There will be a SVP quiz on Saturday 14th October starting 7pm. A sausage and mash or vegetarian meal will be provided. Please bring your own alcoholic beverages. Please put your name down on list in the porch indicating your meal choice. Admission £10 on the door.

Away Afternoon: Saturday 4th November

The afternoon begins with a soup and sandwich lunch (provided) at 1 pm and we will finish by 4.30 pm. A time for learning together, shared thoughts and prayer. Please let Fr Terry know if you are coming, either by email, phone message or a written note (to make sure that he does not forget).

Mindfulness Skills for Young People

This autumn we are offering a short course of 5 sessions introducing young people aged 10+ to mindfulness techniques using the .b Mindfulness in Schools programme. At the most simple level .b is an awareness-raising exercise to give youngsters a taste of mindfulness, and for many the course can relatively quickly lead to very positive outcomes: they feel calmer and more connected; they can concentrate better; they have a toolkit to deal with stress and anxiety. Annual Peace Walk

The annual Finchley Peace Walk, which is part of One World Week, is on Saturday October 21st, assembling at St Mary Church of England in Hendon Lane 10.30-11. Then walking to various places of worship, Jewish, Christian and Muslim. Details on the board in the church porch. There are also copies of the route with more information on the tables by the church door.

Film Evening: ‘Brooklyn’ – Saturday 11th November

Join us after the Vigil Mass for our autumn film evening + pizza. ‘Brooklyn’ is a romantic drama about the young Irish immigrant Ellis Lace (Saoirse Ronan) who navigates her way trhough 1950s Brooklyn. A 2015 British-Canadian-Irish production directed by John Crowley and written by Nick Hornby. ‘Brooklyn’ is based on Colm Tóibin’s 2009 novel of the same name. No entrance fee, all welcome.

Educare Safeguarding On Line Training

Educare training programmes can help individuals familiarise themselves with safeguarding matters. Amongst others, it also includes The Child Exploitation and Online Safety programme which helps better understand how children and young people use technology and the associated risks. It is available to all

parishioners. Please see the poster on the notice board at the back of the church for further information.
