The funeral of the late Florence Kearns will take place at Islington Crematorium on Wednesday 14th February at 11.45 am.

Elizabeth Trussler

The funeral Mass of the late Elizabeth Trussler will be held on Friday 16th February at 10 am here at St Mary’s.

The funeral Mass of the late Elizabeth McCarthy will be here on Monday 19th February at 10 am.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday this year is on 14th February. There will be Mass with imposition of ashes at 10 am and 7 pm – please note earlier time than usual for evening Mass.

LENT

Lenten Film Series: The Bible

Join us this Lent and watch the epic miniseries The Bible (2013) with us. This dazzling series offers a visual way to experience the stories of the Old and New Testaments and carries a film classification of 12 (as you can imagine, it includes violent scenes and some sexual content). Soup and scripture

Each Saturday in Lent, beginning Saturday 17th February, there will be ‘Soup and Scripture’ in the presbytery. Delicious vegetarian soup and discussion of Sunday scriptures 12.30 pm.

These booklets contain the readings for each day in Lent and an occasional prayer. They are available for sale in the repository, £2 each. Put the money in the box designated for repository items.

SVP Quiz Night – Saturday 3rd March 2018

There will be a SVP quiz night on Saturday 3rd March, at 7pm to raise funds for supporting families in Finchley. Through the generosity of the parish 25 families in Finchley were helped over Christmas. A sausage and mash or vegetarian meal will be provided. Some soft drinks and white wine will be available but otherwise bring your own beverages. Please put your name down on the list in the porch; £10 on the door.

Skateboarding Workshop and Easter Trail

Join us for an afternoon of Easter eggs, skateboarding and rollerskating on Easter Monday, 2nd April 3 – 5 pm. Ages 6 – 18. Skateboarding workshop for beginners, improvers and advanced skaters led by Skates and Ladders (http://skatesandladders.com) . Boards and helmets provided. Supporting Local Refugees

Many thanks for your generous support for the local drop-in centre for destitute refugees and asylum seekers. We were able to take 220 hard-boiled eggs to the centre last Sunday. The collection for next month will be on 4th March.

Volunteers for Children’s Liturgy

Helen Doran writes: We are looking for volunteers to join the rotation Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the 10am mass. Teaching is not a requirement, just the desire to help children to be formed in the Catholic faith. Training and instruction are provided. Cardinal’s Mass of Thanksgiving for the Sacrament of Matrimony

Westminster Cathedral, Saturday 19th May 2018 at 3 pm

The Cardinal invites all couples in the Diocese who are celebrating their 5th, 10th, 25th, 30th, 40th, 50th and 60th (and every year over 60) wedding anniversary of Catholic marriage in 2018. Eucharistic Congress in Liverpool

The Bishops of England and Wales invite delegates from all parishes to attend a Eucharistic Congress in Liverpool the weekend of 7-9 September 2018. The focus is on deepening our appreciation of Christ in the Eucharist. Our parish is looking for 2 – 4 delegates to attend this Congress, financial support will be available to help with the costs. We have to book our places in early March, so please let the parish office know by the end of February that you are interested in being one of our two parish delegates. In preparation for the Congress, there will be an opportunity for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at the end of all Sunday Masses during the month of June. We also invite parishioners to become Eucharistic ministers

St Mary’s Open Choir

Our next rehearsal with Liz is on Sunday 25th February, at 11 am to practise the hymns for 10 am Mass on 4th March. All welcome, no previous experience necessary, all ages. Please feel free to request a hymn by e mailing Sandra, finchleyeastcat@rcdow.org.uk
