New member of parish staff

We are glad to announce the appointment of Holly Graham as Director of Christian Education and Youth Work, in succession to Sandra Lipner. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Sandra for all the flair, creativity and organizational skills that she has brought to this post for the last five years. Holly has already been part of our parish life as a catechist in the weekly Children’s Liturgy at the 10 am Mass. She is a science graduate. Holly, her husband Dan and their four children are well known to us. Pray for God’s blessing on her as she takes up her post.

First Holy Communion Preparation

Please hold your horses while we finalise the programme for 2019. We will shortly be open for registration.

Home Mission Appeal – This Weekend 15th/16th September

This weekend, after all the Masses there will be a Special Collection for the Home Mission Appeal.

GRAND HALL RE-OPENING

The refurbished large hall is finally finished. You are invited to come and see for yourself after each Mass this weekend. It looks splendid, especially the honey-coloured floor. One of the objectives was to let the maximum amount of light into the hall. The new windows and doors together with the lighter-coloured paint have indeed made for a much brighter and friendlier hall.

There are still some finishing touches to be made. For example:

 - Curtains are on order for the door and windows near the bar area.

 - The stage is gone, dramatically increasing the area available for everyday use. To replace the stage we will be buying portable staging that can be put up and then dismantled and stored away.

 - The Challenor Room is still to be tidied up. This can then be used for group meetings. The new window means that you can see who is coming down the ramp, and can also monitor entry through the new glass door.

This work has drained our reserves.

 - To help build them up again we will have a second collection next weekend of Sunday 23rd September.

 - And there will be a fund-raising concert at 7.30 pm on Saturday 10th November, with Billy Faughnan and other contributors.

Inquirers about the Catholic faith

If you are attending Mass here and not a Catholic, please let Fr Terry know, as we may begin an inquirers class in November. This is known as the RCIA. Also, if you are an adult baptised Catholic but were never confirmed – or perhaps even never made your first communion – it might be possible for you to join this group also.

Safeguarding

At present our new safeguarding representative, Eimir Read, is in the process of preparing to take up her post. When this process is complete her contact details will be readily available. The safeguarding procedures will also be explained.

Alpha at St Mary’s

Peter and Ros Kraushar tell us: Pope Francis loves this course, so does Fr Raniero Cantalamessa, Preacher to the Papal Household for over 25 years, so do many other Christians all over the world! Do you want to learn more? Do you want to find joy in your faith? Do you pray for family and friends to know the Lord? We are all asked to evangelise and Alpha is recognised as a great way of doing this. We start in the Hall at 7.30 pm on 10 October. No charge, just optional food donation. Please pick up a form and register - Peter  Kraushar  020 8883 4736, peterkrau@aol.com
