Baptisms, Sacrament of Marriage and Funerals. Fr Peter writes: Sadly baptisms and the Sacrament of Matrimony will be deferred until such time that the public health advice is that congregations can gather safely. Funerals will now take place at the graveside or at a crematorium, subject to the conditions laid down by the cemetery or crematorium authorities. Mass will be celebrated in memoriam when we are allowed to gather. We must keep in prayerful solidarity those who are grieving the loss of a loved one at this difficult time and offer as much support as we can. Saturday Evening & Sunday Mass Intentions: Fr Peter writes: As public Masses cannot be celebrated at this time, it is generally no longer appropriate for priests to celebrate Mass more than once a day, including on Sundays. This will mean that all Saturday evening and Sunday Masses which were to be celebrated for a special intention will now not be celebrated. Instead I will celebrate one Sunday Mass at 10am for the “People of the Parish”. If you have arranged for an intention for a Sunday Mass, I will defer this to the first available weekday Mass. I totally understand your disappointment, and if you would prefer to send your Mass intention to a missionary or enclosed community, let me know and I will arrange a refund. How to see St Mary’s 10am Daily Mass. Fr Peter writes: With the excellent assistance of Peter (a talented young man in the parish) and Holly you will be able to see me celebrate a daily 10am Mass in the Church via www.saintmarys.online Please let others know of this website -every day at 10am. We are working on the sound quality – hopefully will improve – but please turn up your volumes or wear headphones. Being St Mary’s Parish - Staying in touch - Registration & Parish Census: Fr Peter writes: It is very important that I am able to keep in touch with you. The shepherd needs his flock. Please update your parish details using the parish census sheet and return to me hand delivered via a volunteer who can come to the presbytery. It is so important that we stay in touch with each other. I will endeavour to send out a weekly newsletter to those without computers. If you are receiving post from us but have an e mail address, please let us know your e mail address. I will also use the live streamed Masses to convey notices. UK Mutual Aid We connect volunteers to those needing assistance while self-isolating during covid19.To request help leave us a message: 020 31 377 488. We have volunteers in Barnet. We are good at Picking up Shopping • Sending Post or providing useful information • or just a friendly chat. Do not forget: Fr Peter writes: Even though you cannot come to church, I can still light a candle for your intentions. If you would like me to place a lighted candle underneath the statue of the Sacred Heart, Our Lady or St Anthony, please give me a call, or leave a message, and I will do so before the daily 10am Mass. The Whittington Hospital:

Fr Peter writes: For the next couple of Friday’s, I have been asked by the Whittington to go into the hospital to be a Catholic presence and to offer support to staff. I feel very honoured to be asked to do this, and I would be grateful if you could inform any staff that you know work there to seek me out. I would also be grateful for your prayers.

Finchley Foodbank: Last week we had so many donations we were able to bolster our usual bag with a jam/spread for each household, thanks to our community's generosity. We also received a number of facemasks to share with our clients, which was extremely thoughtful. A representative of Finchley Foodbank, happily received a WHOOPING £945 from #thebomemia in North Finchley, who held an event to raise funds for us a few weeks ago. After another busy Saturday, with 23 new households to support, we are short of: -tins of fruit –biscuits –cereals -crackers We have enough of everything else for this week, so if you can concentrate on these items that would be fabulous, so that we are able to give all of our clients these basic items. Please check your donations are in date as we have vulnerable clients. We are able to accept donations from members of the public on Wednesday 10am1pm and Friday 12-3pm in the church hall Please observe the 2 metre distance rule whilst on the premises and try not to touch anything. To the left of the church is a drive way, walk down it and leave your donation on the table ahead of you. Please don't come inside the hall.

Opening the Church: Fr Peter writes: You are invited to pray a Novena to the Holy Spirit (sent yesterday) so that one day soon we will be able to open St Mary’s for prayer and then eventually for the public celebration of Mass. Both these stages will require careful planning and organisation. When the church is allowed to be opened we will have to observe certain rules and regulations for our safety: using alcohol gel when we enter the church, keeping to the social distancing guidelines which will be marked on the floor, fewer people admitted at any one time, and respecting that the building will need to be regularly cleaned each day – thus limiting the hours the church will be open. Let us pray our beautiful church, and all churches will be opened soon.
