Good Shepherd Sunday – Priest Training Fund – Second Collection This Weekend

This Sunday is Good Shepher Sunday and there will be a second collection to support the Priest Training Fund. This fund pays for the priestly formation of men for the Catholic priesthood. There are currently 58 men studying at Allen Hall seminary, 17 of whom are from our own Diocese, and 2 also studying in Rome. Last year 4 who studied at Allen Hall were ordained to the priesthood. Your gift ensures we can provide training for these men responding to Christ’s call to dedicate their lives to serve God’s people. Please be as generous as you can. Please also pray for vocations and for all our priests. If you do not have a donation envelope, plenty are still available at the back of the church. You can use the QR code to make your donation online or visit www.rcdow.org.uk/donations. Thank you for your generosity.

What also happened 70 Years ago…

The English version of Anne Frank’s “The Diary of a Young Girl” was published, The iconic musical film “Singin’ In The Rain” premieres at Radio City Music Hall, The popular Mr. Potato Head toy is first sold, Mother Teresa opens the home for dying and destitute in Calcutta, Elizabeth II is crowned Queen of the United Kingdom & the Commonwealth, and Cardinal Griffin blesses the foundation stone of St Mary’s church in East Finchley.

Seniors Lunch and Dance

St Mary's SVP are pleased to announce that they are arranging a lunch for our parish seniors after 2 years of everyone coping with Covid and its aftermath. Our Lady of Lourdes school have invited us to use their wonderful facilities so it will be held on Sunday 29th May at 1pm. Billy Faughnan and Michael O'Hare will provide us with music to ensure that you all have a great time. Sheets for signing up for it will be in the church porch on the weekends 30th April/1st May, 7th/8th May and 14/15 May.

The Outdoor Stations:

The Outdoor Stations have become the “Stations of the Resurrection” and have slightly changed positioning to reflect the days after the Lord’s Resurrection. The First station is now on the bank at the left-hand side of the church. They will remain in place until Pentecost.

Finchley Foodbank:

Fr Peter writes: “With a rise in the cost of living, Finchley Foodbank has recently suffered a decrease in donations of both food and money. An appeal is going out asking for donations of “emergency food” supplies – that is: UHT milk, tinned tomatoes, tined meats, pasta, cereals, pasta sauces, baked beans, tea and coffee. If you are doing your supermarket shop and see any of these items in the low-cost range and can afford to donate them, we would be very grateful. Luxury items are great, but products in the “emergency food” range, as listed, are more useful. All donations must be “in date” and unopened”. With grateful thanks.
