One of early the signs that Nazi Germany was evil came with its campaign to rid the country of the disable. They were deemed to be a 'drain' on resources. In addition they were considered to be of poor genetic stock, which eugenicists wanted removed. Eugenics believes that we can ‘breed’ an improved human race, rather like the breeding of cattle. God and the world
There are two ways of looking at the world in the Bible. One tells us that the world is a terrible place. The other tells us that the world is a wonderful place. Both are true, and we have to understand this and keep them together.
First the tradition that the world is a terrible place. This comes through quite clearly in today’s second reading, for example, where in the letter of James we hear that pure religion means ‘keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world’.
