BOOKING A MASS

Now is a good time to book a Mass for someone who has recently died, an anniversary or for someone who is unwell. Either visit or ring the parish office during office hours (Mon, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10am to 2pm) or send an email finchleyeast@rcdow.org.uk

OUR LADY OF LOURDES PRIMARY SCHOOL PRESENTATION

Fr Peter writes “Those of us who attended last Sunday’s 10am Mass were deeply impressed by the presentation skills of Keeley and Joseph, two pupils from Our Lady of Lourdes primary school, they spoke beautifully with conviction about this wonderful school. As a one-form-entry Catholic primary, it is truly a jewel of education in the borough. We are so fortunate to have it as our parish school, and we ought to do a little more to promote and support it.”

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INTITATION OF ADULTS

If you are an adult who is thinking about becoming a Catholic, or you are an adult who has not made your First Holy Communion or Confirmation then you might like to consider joining the parish RCIA group. Starting in the Autumn, this group meets once a week to learn more about the Catholic faith and to prepare either for Baptism, First Holy Communion or Confirmation (or all three). If you are interested, please see Fr Peter after Mass.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION PROGRAMME 2026

If your child is going to be in Year 3 in September and has received a Catholic baptism, they can apply for next year’s First Holy Communion Programme. The date for next year’s First Holy Communion Mass has been provisionally set for Sunday 7th June (although this may change if Fr Peter is required to attend a diocesan event). If you would like to register your child, please see Fr Peter after Mass, and he will tell you about the application form.

CONFIRMATION PROGRAMME 2026

The parish Confirmation Course for 2026 will soon be open for registration. This 8-week course is open to young adults in year 9 at secondary school who have been baptised and made their First Holy Communion. Please see Fr Peter after Mass if you are interested.

A Jubilee Thank You!

Heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made our Jubilee celebration so special. From the uplifting Mass to the joyful gathering that followed, each detail reflected care and community. A special thanks to Patrizia and her creative team, who transformed the hall into a space filled with light and laughter. To Catherine, John, and Liza—thank you for ensuring our tea-time ran smoothly, with warmth and precision. Luis, John, and Wilfredo’s team brought gentle grace and gleaming tidiness to restore the space with care. To Joan, Karan, Arecelia, and all those who baked with love and generosity—your cakes and tea-time treats truly sweetened the day. And to our readers, singers, servers, and behind-the-scenes contributors, your quiet gifts spoke volumes.

If your name isn’t listed, know this: your presence helped make our Jubilee shine. Each of you—truly a “Jubilee Thank you!”

With every shared moment and every act of kindness, you helped this celebration stand tall. Thank you for bringing your heart and hands to a day I hope we can all cherish.                                                 Fr Peter.

THURSDAY LUNCHTIME PRAYER GROUP

Fr Peter writes: “St Mary's invites you to 15 minutes of guided contemplative prayer every Thursday at 12 noon, held either in the meeting room beside the presbytery or in the church. Each session is led by a parishioner, offering inspiration and reflection. Everyone is welcome to join.”

SUNDAY MASS TIMES IN AUGUST

Due to smaller congregations in August, Sunday Mass times will change to: Saturday 5pm, Sunday 8:30am and 11am.

This “temporary August change” will begin Saturday 2nd August and finish Sunday 24th August. Normal schedule will resume on Sunday 31st August.

BARNET HOSPITAL:

Fr Peter will be “on call” for Barnet Hospital every Saturday, he joins a group of local priests who provide daily sacramental cover. If you know you are going into hospital please see Fr Peter before your admission so he can anoint you. If you are admitted into hospital unexpectedly and would like to see a priest contact the nurse in charge of the ward, ideally during the day. Night-time calls should only be for emergencies
