With Fr Peter’s permission, we warmly invite any parishioners who may be interested to sign up on the list at the back of the church. MONDAY IS THE FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD

The Feast of the Presentation, celebrated on February 2 and often called Candlemas, commemorates Mary and Joseph bringing the infant Jesus to the Temple, where He is recognized as the light of the world. Rooted in the Gospel of Luke, the day highlights themes of humility, fulfilment of prophecy, and the meeting of the Holy Family with Simeon and Anna.

A distinctive tradition of this feast is the blessing of candles, symbolizing Christ as the true light who dispels darkness.

Parishioners are invited to bring candles from home to be blessed at the 10am Mass (or to the Faith Sharing Group at 7:30pm in the small hall), whether they’re for prayer corners, family meals, or moments of quiet reflection throughout the year. These blessed candles become a tangible reminder of God’s presence in our homes and lives, carrying the warmth and hope of Christ into the months ahead.

Candlemas also marks the final day that Christmas cribs remain in many churches. The feast’s focus on Christ as the light to the nations beautifully closes the Christmas cycle, so the crib is put away after this celebration, symbolizing the transition from Christ’s birth to the beginning of His public mission.
