(RE-STARTING OUR) SUPPORT FOR LOCAL REFUGEES: EGGS PLEASE
It is still Easter so with Easter Eggs in mind…. please help us support the local drop-in centre for destitute refugees and asylum seekers by bringing donations of 6 or more hard-boiled eggs to church on Sunday 8 June. Collection boxes will be available in the porch before all Masses. Contact: finchleyeastcat@rcdow.org.uk
THURSDAY LUNCHTIME PRAYER GROUP
Fr Peter writes: “St Mary's invites you to 15 minutes of guided contemplative prayer every Thursday at 12 noon, held either in the meeting room beside the presbytery or in the church. Each session is led by a parishioner, offering inspiration and reflection. Everyone is welcome to join.”
YOUNGER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
Calling all young parishioners! If you’ve made your First Holy Communion, consider becoming an altar server at our weekend Masses. This is a chance to receive excellent training, make new friends, and even take part in occasional excursions. You will also be enrolled in the Guild of St Stephen (something rather wonderful), with Fr Dennis as the national chaplain. Please take some time to consider this rewarding role—Fr Peter will really be putting out a sign-up sheet next week!
MORE MATURE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Can you spare a couple of hours on Monday mornings? Fr Peter needs volunteers to help with counting the offertory money each week. If you're good with numbers and want to make a meaningful contribution, this is a great way to support him and the parish. If you’re able to help, please let Fr Peter know— you would also be joining a wonderful team of existing counters – full of wisdom.
JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS – SHARE YOUR SPECIAL MILESTONE!
As we prepare to celebrate Canon Robert and Fr Michaels ordination jubilees in this Jubilee Year, you might have a jubilee of your own to mark! If 2025 is a special year for you—whether you’re celebrating a milestone wedding anniversary (25th, 30th, 35th, 40th, etc.) or an important birthday (10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, etc.)—please let Fr Peter know by putting your name and Jubilee milestone on the sheet at the back of the church. All these special occasions will be honoured at our Jubilee Mass on Sunday, 29th June at 11:00am.
We also want to follow the Jubilee Mass with a “Tea Party”! Not just any tea party – but a special “St Mary’s Jubilee Tea Party” with celebratory cakes, candles to be blown out, all manner of delicious treats… and you! If you can add some sandwiches, scones, or any “buffet style finger food” please let us know by adding your name and what you can bring to the list at the back of the church.
Fr Peter is also researching a jubilee themed treat for our younger parishioners. So, let us get ready to be Jubilant in this Jubilee Year!!!
ST MARY’S LENT COURSE – 2025
“WHEN YOU PRAY”
FINAL SESSION: Monday 2nd June.
The session is an hour, beginning at 7:30pm and occurs in the small hall
MASS OF THANKSGIVING FOR CARITAS BAKHITA HOUSE
On 30th June at 5.30pm, Cardinal Vincent Nichols will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving to mark the 10-year anniversary of the opening of Caritas Bakhita House, our safe house supporting women escaping trafficking and exploitation. The Mass will take place at Westminster Cathedral, and all priests and parishioners are warmly invited to attend. You can find out more about Caritas Bakhita House at https://caritaswestminster.org.uk/bakhita-house/
NOTICE OF CONFIRMATION MASS
We are pleased to announce that this year’s Confirmation Mass will take place on Tuesday, 10th June at 7:00pm. Due to Bishop John’s appointment as the Archbishop of Liverpool, the Cardinal has granted permission for parish priests in the Northern Area to preside over Confirmation. As a result, Fr Peter will have the honour of confirming our young people. To ensure the candidates are well-prepared, a rehearsal will be held on Thursday, 5th June at 8:00pm in the church. Candidates are required to arrive and meet Fr Peter at 7:30pm. Sponsors and parents will join the candidates at 8:00pm.
NEW EUCHARISTIC MINISTER AND READER ROTAS
The current rotas end on 22nd June and work on drawing up the new rotas will start very soon. If you wish to change the Mass at which you normally serve, or know that you are unavailable on a particular day, then please let Yvonne, Parish Administrator know. Please do so by Sunday 15th June. The new rotas will run from 29th June to 9th November, excluding all Sundays in August. Many thanks.
FROM FR PETER….
A heartfelt thank you to some unsung heroes of St Mary’s! Every Monday morning, Ines, Melanie, Paulina, Patience, Dorothy, and David work tirelessly to keep our church clean and welcoming. Their dedication does not go unnoticed, and we are truly grateful for their service. A special thanks to Dorothy for her commitment in single-handedly cleaning the altar robes—your hard work is deeply appreciated. Thank you all for your invaluable contributions to our parish!
