JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS – SHARE YOUR SPECIAL MILESTONE!
As we prepare to celebrate Canon Robert and Fr Michaels ordination jubilees in this Jubilee Year, you might have a jubilee of your own to mark! If 2025 is a special year for you—whether you’re celebrating a milestone wedding anniversary (25th, 30th, 35th, 40th, etc.) or an important birthday (10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, etc.)—please let Fr Peter know by putting your name and Jubilee milestone on the sheet at the back of the church. All these special occasions will be honoured at our Jubilee Mass on Sunday, 29th June at 11:00am.
LIFT SOME JUBILEE WEIGHT BY VOLUNTEERING
We also want to follow the Jubilee Mass with a “Tea Party”! Not just any tea party – but a special “St Mary’s Jubilee Tea Party” with celebratory cakes, candles to be blown out, all manner of delicious treats… and you! If you can add some sandwiches, scones, or any “buffet style finger food” please let us know by adding your name and what you can bring to the list at the back of the church.
Or if you can help set up or clear away that would be a wonderful way of showing that St Mary’s celebrates and works together as one family!
Sign-up sheet for Volunteers is also at the back of the Church.

SUNDAY MASS TIMES IN AUGUST
Due to smaller congregations in August, Sunday Mass times will change to: Saturday 5pm, Sunday 8:30am and 11am.
This “temporary August change” will begin Saturday 2nd August and finish Sunday 24th August. Normal schedule will resume on Sunday 31st August.
BARNET HOSPITAL:
Fr Peter will be “on call” for Barnet Hospital every Saturday, he joins a group of local priests who provide daily sacramental cover. If you know you are going into hospital please see Fr Peter before your admission so he can anoint you. If you are admitted into hospital unexpectedly and would like to see a priest contact the nurse in charge of the ward, ideally during the day. Night-time calls should only be for emergencies.
ENGAGING WITH THE FINAL SYNOD DOCUMENT – A JOURNEY OF FAITH
All Barnet Deanery parishioners interested in becoming active members of a synodal Church are invited to the first in a series of 6 monthly meetings which will take place on Saturday, 28th June at 2.00pm at St Edward the Confessor Church, 700 Finchley Road, London NW11 7NE. A free copy of the document we will be exploring in our meetings can be obtained by emailing Chris Rosser (chrisrosser@btinternet.com) with your postal address. Let’s discover together what the Synod is asking of us as a Church! If you wish to represent St Mary’s, please let Fr Peter know.
NEW EUCHARISTIC MINISTER AND READER ROTAS
The current rotas end on 22nd June and work on drawing up the new rotas will start very soon. If you wish to change the Mass at which you normally serve, or know that you are unavailable on a particular day, then please let Yvonne, Parish Administrator know. Please do so by Sunday 15th June. The new rotas will run from 29th June to 9th November, excluding all Sundays in August. Many thanks.
THURSDAY LUNCHTIME PRAYER GROUP
Fr Peter writes: “St Mary's invites you to 15 minutes of guided contemplative prayer every Thursday at 12 noon, held either in the meeting room beside the presbytery or in the church. Each session is led by a parishioner, offering inspiration and reflection. Everyone is welcome to join.”
YOUNGER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
Calling all young parishioners! If you’ve made your First Holy Communion, consider becoming an altar server at our weekend Masses. This is a chance to receive excellent training, make new friends, and even take part in occasional excursions. You will also be enrolled in the Guild of St Stephen (something rather wonderful), with Fr Dennis as the national chaplain. Please take some time to consider this rewarding role; there is a sign-up sheet at the back of the church. Those under 18 will need a parent to add their name to the list.
BISHOP DOUGLASS SCHOOL – STAFF VACANCIES
Bishop Douglass School is currently seeking the following: Sixth Form Supervisor (Maternity Cover), and a Librarian. To apply or find out more, please e mail to schooladmin@bishopdouglass.barnet.sch.uk or contact Mrs M Saleem, PA to the Headteacher on 0208 444 5211.
THANK YOU TO OUR CATECHETICAL TEAM!
A heartfelt thank you to Margaret, John, Vicky, Emmanuella, and Carmelo for their incredible support in catechetical work this past year. Your dedication and commitment have made a meaningful impact on our parish community.
A special thank you to Nina for her invaluable work behind the scenes—ensuring seamless communication with the parish and compiling essential materials for lessons. Your efforts are deeply appreciated!
If you would like to be part of this wonderful team, please speak to Fr Peter. This opportunity is ideal for someone who is retired or a catholic considering a future in teaching. Thank you once again for all that you do!
ALLOTMENT LANDSCAPING
You will see that the allotment behind the church has been transformed into a pebble and evergreen oasis, so tastefully arranged that it is worthy of the Chelsea Flower show. Thanks to David, Julia and Kristina for making this back breaking transformation possible.
