GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY – PRIEST TRAINING FUND SECOND COLLECTION

Next weekend, on Good Shepherd Sunday, there will be a second collection for the Priest Training Fund.  This fund plays a crucial role in supporting men who are discerning and preparing for the priesthood.  Their formation includes academic study, spiritual development and pastoral training – all of which are essential for their future ministry. As we reflect on Christ as the Good Shepherd, we are reminded that He continues to call shepherds for His Church today.  Please keep our seminarians and those considering this calling in your prayers.  Envelopes will be available next week.

BELATED THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT DURING THE EASTER TRIDUUM

As we reflect on the grace and joy of the Easter season, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped make the Triduum celebrations so meaningful. Whether you assisted with preparations, participated in the liturgies, or supported St Mary’s in any way, your contributions were truly appreciated.

A special thanks goes to John C for his dedication in preparing those who were confirmed at the Easter Vigil, Helen T for her expert coordination of the choir, Holly for presiding over the family stations of the cross, and Marie J and Marie G for their work in adorning the church with stunning flowers and decorations. Your efforts have truly enriched our community, and I am deeply grateful.

Thanks to everyone for your Easter offertory gifts and for your dedication and service to this parish. May the blessings of Easter continue to shine in your hearts!

Fr Peter

NEW TO ST MARY’S?

Are you new here? We're delighted to have you join our vibrant community. You’ll find a registration card at the back of the church—please fill it in to help us get to know you better.

Our parish is home to two wonderful schools: Bishop Douglass High School and Our Lady of Lourdes Primary. We also have two church halls available for hire, perfect for events and gatherings. Above all, we pride ourselves on being a warm and welcoming community with a social conscience.

Oh, and keep an eye out for Otto the barky dog, our friendly yet formidable "head of security." He’ll charm you in no time—but we’ll let you discover that for yourself.

We’re so glad you’re here! Let us know how we can support you.

CHURCH BOILER FUND:

Fr Peter writes: “A very warm thank you to everyone who has donated or helped to fundraise for the church boiler appeal. Our latest total stands at £26,841.07 — an amazing achievement. We are now well over halfway and firmly on the home stretch. This week, the old boiler (over 70 years in service) was finally removed, and as it was taken out, I offered a prayer of thanks for all the years of faithful work it has given.

FAITH SHARING GROUP: REMAIN WITH ME: BECOMING SAINTS IN THE EVERYDAY

We've walked with Jesus through His Passion - not just as witnesses, but stepping into the story of His love and sacrifice. Now the invitation to remain with Him, beyond the Cross, and allow that love to transform how we live each day. As we journey toward Pentecost, we'll look to the lives of the saints - ordinary people who said yes, stayed, and were filled with His Spirit - and discover how we are called to do the same.

The Faith Sharing Group will resume on Monday 27th April at 7:30pm in the small hall. All are very welcome!

YOUTH FOR PEACE – BUDAPEST 2026 “GLOBAL FRIENDSHIP” MEETING

Parents of children year 9+: can your child respond to Pope Leo’s call to build and sustain peace in today’s world?  The Community of Sant’Egidio invites the youngsters of St Mary’s to join Youth for Peace meeting in Budapest.   Youth for Peace is a global movement where young people choose friendship over division. Each year they gather for Global Friendship, and this year it takes place in Budapest, 28–30 August 2026.  If you’re interested, join us for a short meeting for parents and youth at 7:30pm on Tuesday 19th May (in the small hall) to find out more and secure a place (we do have limited availability).
