The Reconciliation/ Confessional Room.

Fr Peter writes: In November St Mary’s was audited by the diocese (who inspected our financial records, the security of our buildings and our safeguarding measures). We have been awarded a proposed 91% compliance score – which is excellent, and is due to the hard work of Fr Terry, Yvonne, Emir, and Peter. The auditors have recommended that our reconciliation room has a clear dividing wall between the priest and penitent (rather than a screen), and so alterations to our confessional have begun. If you peek into the old reconciliation room you will now see two booths – very similar to a confessional box. However, in keeping with current safeguarding advice, the booths have glass doors, and the penitent’s side has the option of a kneeler or a chair. If you wish to have a “face to face confession”, the priest will invite you onto the sanctuary or into the main church, away from anyone who can hear, and in public view. Alterations should be complete by next weekend.
