ST MARY’S SAFEGUARDING MEETING – CHANGE OF DATE:

Due to a busy workload the parish meeting on Safeguarding has been postponed until Monday 18th November at 7:30pm in the Parish Centre. This is a chance for you to ask questions and meet Eimir Read the Parish Safeguarding Representative. A new noticeboard to the right of the church, has been set aside for safeguarding.

NOVEMBER IS THE MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS

Blank forms are available at the back of the church for you to complete with the names of loved ones who have died. Put your list of loved ones into the brown envelope (also at the back of the church) and return either into the Holy Souls box (at the back of the church) or through the presbytery letterbox.

ST MARY’S YOUTH……

The fun’s not over—next up is a popcorn and pizza movie evening on Sunday 17th November – details to follow…

OPPOSE ASSISTED DYING

For us as Catholics, the legalisation of assisted suicide undermines the sanctity and dignity of human life. The Catholic Bishops are urging all Catholics to become better informed about the serious problems associated with the legalisation of assisted suicide and calling on Catholics in England and Wales to unite in prayer and compassionate action to oppose Assisted Dying.

NEW LECTIONARY – THE READINGS AT MASS

A new edition of the Lectionary, the book which contains the readings proclaimed at Mass, will come into use in England and Wales on the First Sunday of Advent 2024. It is a big moment of change as we move away from the now familiar Jerusalem Bible translation to the new English Standard Version – Catholic Edition translation. The new lectionary will use better biblical scholarship and more up-to-date translations to make the Bible more faithful to its original languages.

POSSIBLE CONFIRMATION COURSE:

Fr Peter will organise a Confirmation course for any young adults in year 9 at secondary school. For entrance onto the Confirmation programme they must regularly attend a weekend Mass at St Mary’s. The course needs a cohort of at least 12. Please see or contact Fr Peter if you are interested.

THIS HALLOWEEN WHY NOT WATCH THE LIFE OF A SAINT:

Fr Peter will be showing “Cabrini” at 7:30pm in the small hall on Thursday. “Cabrini” is about Francesca Cabrini, an Italian immigrant who arrives in New York City in 1889 and is greeted by disease, crime, and impoverished children. Cabrini sets off on a daring mission to convince the hostile mayor to secure housing and healthcare for society's most vulnerable. With broken English and poor health, Cabrini uses her entrepreneurial mind to build an empire of hope unlike anything the world had ever seen. Reviews for this 2024 film have been good! It is categorised as a 12. Bring popcorn!
