JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS – SHARE YOUR SPECIAL MILESTONE!
As we prepare to celebrate Canon Robert and Fr Michaels ordination jubilees in this Jubilee Year, you might have a jubilee of your own to mark! If 2025 is a special year for you—whether you’re celebrating a milestone wedding anniversary (25th, 30th, 35th, 40th, etc.) or an important birthday (10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, etc.)—please let Fr Peter know by putting your name and Jubilee milestone on the sheet at the back of the church. All these special occasions will be honoured at our Jubilee Mass on Sunday, 29th June at 11:00am……… Finally – Fr Dom is also attending to celebrate his first anniversary of ordination.
STILL NOT TO LATE TO VOLUNTEER & HELP……..
We also want to follow the Jubilee Mass with a “Tea Party”! Not just any tea party – but a special “St Mary’s Jubilee Tea Party” with celebratory cakes, candles to be blown out, all manner of delicious treats… and you! If you can add some sandwiches, scones, or any “buffet style finger food” please let us know by adding your name and what you can bring to the list at the back of the church.
Or if you can help set up or clear away that would be a wonderful way of showing that St Mary’s celebrates and works together as one family!
Sign-up sheet for Volunteers is also at the back of the Church.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING
There will be a meeting of the Parish Council this Sunday at 4pm in the presbytery.
SUNDAY MASS TIMES IN AUGUST
Due to smaller congregations in August, Sunday Mass times will change to: Saturday 5pm, Sunday 8:30am and 11am.
This “temporary August change” will begin Saturday 2nd August and finish Sunday 24th August. Normal schedule will resume on Sunday 31st August.
BARNET HOSPITAL:
Fr Peter will be “on call” for Barnet Hospital every Saturday, he joins a group of local priests who provide daily sacramental cover. If you know you are going into hospital please see Fr Peter before your admission so he can anoint you. If you are admitted into hospital unexpectedly and would like to see a priest contact the nurse in charge of the ward, ideally during the day. Night-time calls should only be for emergencies.
ENGAGING WITH THE FINAL SYNOD DOCUMENT – A JOURNEY OF FAITH
All Barnet Deanery parishioners interested in becoming active members of a synodal Church are invited to the first in a series of 6 monthly meetings which will take place on Saturday, 28th June at 2.00pm at St Edward the Confessor Church, 700 Finchley Road, London NW11 7NE. A free copy of the document we will be exploring in our meetings can be obtained by emailing Chris Rosser (chrisrosser@btinternet.com) with your postal address. Let’s discover together what the Synod is asking of us as a Church! If you wish to represent St Mary’s, please let Fr Peter know.
FR PETER NEEDS A BRICKLAYER
Fr Peter needs a bricklayer to repair damage to the front step at the entrance of the church. The damage was recently caused by a reversing car or van. Fr Peter would be very grateful for a contact name as soon as possible—before the Jubilee Mass.
THURSDAY LUNCHTIME PRAYER GROUP
Fr Peter writes: “St Mary's invites you to 15 minutes of guided contemplative prayer every Thursday at 12 noon, held either in the meeting room beside the presbytery or in the church. Each session is led by a parishioner, offering inspiration and reflection. Everyone is welcome to join.”
YOUNGER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
Calling all young parishioners! If you’ve made your First Holy Communion, consider becoming an altar server at our weekend Masses. This is a chance to receive excellent training, make new friends, and even take part in occasional excursions. You will also be enrolled in the Guild of St Stephen (something rather wonderful), with Fr Dennis as the national chaplain. Please take some time to consider this rewarding role; there is a sign-up sheet at the back of the church. Those under 18 will need a parent to add their name to the list.
ALTAR SERVERS MEETING WITH FR DENNIS
Fr Dennis, the National Director of the Guild of St Stephen, has invited all altar servers of St Mary’s—both new and current—to a meeting on Saturday, 12th July at 11:00 a.m. The meeting will last for one hour and will take place in the church. St Mary’s has been a member of the Guild of St Stephen since the 1950s. We are now looking to renew our connection and re-join the thousands of altar servers across the country.
FR PETER’S BIRTHDAY
Lately, Fr Peter has finally admitted that he will be celebrating a significant birthday. This has caused some confusion since he has also said that he started his seminary formation 40 years ago……or was it 60 years ago? Is Fr Peter going to be 40 this year? Or, has he been a priest for 60 years and entered seminary 40 years ago? This would make him 100 this year. Whatever his upcoming age, this spring chicken has requested that we defer any birthday greetings until the autumn when he will be officially 40, or 60 or 80….. or finally reach his preferred age of 55 (ish).
BLESSED CARLO ACUTIS
Pope Leo XIV held the first Ordinary Public Consistory of his pontificate on Friday morning, 13 June, with Cardinals giving their formal approval for the canonisations of eight Blesseds.
During the ceremony, the Holy Father announced that London-born Blessed Carlo Acutis will be canonised on 7 September alongside Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. The canonisations of the two young saints – one from the early twentieth century, the other the first millennial saint – have been greatly anticipated due to the great devotion among the faithful.
During Friday’s consistory, Pope Leo also set the date for the canonisation of seven other Blesseds, including two laymen: Bartolo Longo, founder of the famous Marian Shrine at Pompeii; and José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros, a Venezuelan doctor and member of the Secular Franciscan Order, known as “the doctor of the poor” because he treated those in need and even paid for their medicines.
To be canonised, two miracles must be attributed to the Servant of God. Between these four men, that makes eight miracles—eight actions of the Holy Spirit at work in the world.
