THE LATEST CHURCH BOILER FUNDRAISING NEWS

You have raised an amazing £32,179.83 towards the cost of the new church and hall boilers.

A very big thank you to everyone who has donated so generously, organised fundraising events, provided prizes, volunteered their time, or supported our various initiatives. Your generosity and commitment to our parish are truly appreciated.

We are now within touching distance of our target of £36,000, so the finish line is very much in sight. Thank you for everything you have done to help us reach this point, and for your continued support as we make the final push towards our goal.

Dear Friends,

A huge 35th anniversary thank you to all of you who made last Sunday such a memorable and joyful occasion. I loved every minute of it!

Thank you for the beautiful church, so thoughtfully decorated with all the personal touches; for the wonderful music; and for the dedication of our servers and readers who helped make the celebration so prayerful and uplifting.

I was deeply touched by my brothers’ speech at the end of Mass, and by the contribution of our wonderful Year 3 pupils from our parish school, “Our Lady of Lourdes”. Their involvement added something truly special to the day.

Then came the reception in the beautifully decorated hall and patio, adorned with butterflies, strawberry lanternsand bunting. It all looked magnificent. And then there were the cakes—oh my goodness, the cakes! Not only delicious, but such wonderful expressions of your generosity, talent, and kindness.

Thank you also to everyone who gave cards, gifts, and good wishes. Your thoughtfulness and generosity were greatly appreciated.

I really did have a very special 35th anniversary celebration. I know how much work, planning, and love went into making it such a success, and I am profoundly grateful to each and every one of you.

I am truly blessed to be part of this parish family and privileged to work alongside such wonderful people.

With grateful thanks and every blessing,

Fr Peter

THE TERMINALLY ILL ADULTS (END OF LIFE) BILL

A Private Members’ Bill on assisted suicide – so-called assisted dying – has been reintroduced to the House of Commons. The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill will have its Second Reading and vote on Friday, 11 September 2026.

Our clear principled objection to this Bill remains and we renew our call for Catholics and people of goodwill to unite in prayer and compassionate action. Archbishop Richard Moth, President of the Bishops’ Conference, explains our strong opposition to this legislation:

“The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill which aims to legalise assisted suicide has returned to the House of Commons, and Members of Parliament will vote on its Second Reading on 11 September. This bill is wrong in principle. It is also deeply flawed and, if passed, could lead to vulnerable people feeling pressured into ending their lives.

“The Bill has a serious lack of protection for health and social care staff and risks putting many wonderful hospices and care homes in the position of no longer being able to operate.

“I urge you to write to your Members of Parliament to petition them to vote against the Bill at Second Reading.”

You can support the Archbishop’s call and contact your MP now as a matter of urgency. Even if you have already done so in the past, please speak up and voice your opposition. The charity Right to Life UK has a simple online mechanism to do this. It takes little more than a few minutes to enter your postcode, make sure the suggested text suits your viewpoint and submit your message to ask your MP to stop this flawed Bill progressing through parliament.

LUMINISCENCE AT WESTMINSTER CATHEDRAL

An immersive audio visual experience in Westminster Cathedral is wowing audiences this summer. Luminiscence, a ground-breaking take on the concept of son et lumière, is a 360° video projection concert that narrates the story of London and the iconic Neo-Byzantine mother church of the Diocese of Westminster.Voiced by Paddington and Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville, this 50-minute performance is more than just a light show, it uses 24 laser projectors, which bring the Cathedral to life in breath-taking ways with colour and imagery, culminating in a vision of what the Cathedral may one day look like fully covered in mosaics. The stunning visuals are blended with live performances of the great composers brought to life by the Lux Aeterna choir. There are performances on four nights of the week, Wednesday to Saturday, from July to mid-September 2026. Information and bookingTickets can be booked online by visiting the Luminiscence website.

VOICES FROM THE FRINGE: ASKING WHO JESUS MIGHT BE

Fr Terry Tastard has written a book of 25 short stories imagining how people on the edge of the crowd responded to their encounter with Jesus. Each story is written in the first person, as people recall what they saw and heard of him and piece together the clues. The gospel context is given and the cultural setting explained, drawing on the research of scholars into the historical Jesus. Each story concludes with a brief spiritual reflection. The book is called Voices from the Fringe: Asking who Jesus might be and is available only from Amazon at £12.50.
