SVP SENIOR CITIZENS’ LUNCH

A big thank you to all those involved in organising, attending and contributing to the SVP Senior Citizens’ Lunch last Sunday.  It was, as usual, a wonderful event, made possible by the hard work and talent of the SVP.  There was a delicious three course meal and beautiful music. It was very well attended and enjoyed by all.  Thank you to Gertie Brown’s for providing all the wine for the event.

NEXT WEEKEND WE ACKNOWLEDGE RACIAL JUSTICE SUNDAY.

What is Racial Justice Sunday?

Racial Justice Sunday is an annual event observed across Christian churches in the UK to promote awareness of racial inequality and celebrate the dignity of all people.

2025 is the 30th anniversary of Racial Justice Sunday, an initiative originally by the Methodist Church following the tragic racist murder of Stephen Lawrence in 1993. The Lawrence family, members of a local Methodist Church, received support from the Church in their campaign for justice. Later, the Churches’ Commission for Racial Justice (CCRJ), a programme of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland, expanded Racial Justice Sunday for wider Christian engagement and it is now widely seen as a collaborative ecumenical effort to promote racial justice.

The theme for Racial Justice Sunday 2025 is: “Pilgrims of Hope: Our Journey Together Towards Racial Justice”. The theme invites Catholics across England and Wales to reflect on the collective journey towards racial justice in our schools, parishes and the wider society. Bishop Paul McAleenan said: “2025 is a very special year. It marks both a Year of Jubilee and the 30th anniversary of Racial Justice Sunday. “This year, we invite the Catholic community to reflect on the journey towards racial justice- past, present and future – by asking: ‘How far have we come, where are we now and what remains to be achieved?’ “Just as pilgrims must prepare for their journey and be properly equipped, we, too, need all that is necessary to propel us towards racial justice – the mind of Christ; examination of our progress and of the challenges that remain; a willingness to learn from one another together; and prayers for and on the journey.”

Next weekend the statue of Our Lady will be framed by images of Mary from Brazil, The Caribbean, China, Ethiopia, The Middle East, The Philippines and Vietnam.

Let us use next weekend to pray for an end to Racism and Xenophobia in our society. May St Mary’s be a beacon of hope to East Finchley.
