Arthur Laycock RIP

We heard with sadness on Monday 8th October that Arthur had died that morning in Harrogate District Hospital, where he was taken following a fall. He was 97. After Annette's death, Arthur, always a proud Yorkshireman, moved back up north which also meant that he could be near his daughter. He was an army veteran, a retired teacher of the arts, and generous to this church. Those attending the 8.30 am Mass will remember him latterly in his motorised wheelchair, in the front row. May he rest in peace. His funeral will be held at St Robert's Catholic Church, Robert Street, Harrogate HG1 1HP on Tuesday 30 October 2018 at noon.

If you are still thinking about it you would be most welcome next Wednesday at 7.30 pm and bring family and friends, especially the lapsed and those who never go to church; they will enjoy the course and at least some will be converted. Please pick up a form and come - a hot supper at 7.30 pm.

Inquirers about the Catholic faith

If you are not a Catholic, but interested do let Fr Terry know, as we may begin an inquirers class known as the RCIA. Also, if you are a baptised adult Catholic but never confirmed – or perhaps never made your first communion – it might be possible for you to join this group. Written contact details would be helpful.

Aid to the Church in Need: Appeal

This weekend John Ravi, Area Secretary for Aid to the Church in Need for the Archdiocese of Westminster, will make an appeal during all Masses. Aid to the Church in need is a Pontifical charity which works in 140 countries, helping persecuted and oppressed Christians around the world through prayer, information and action. At the moment it is involved in the front-line works in Syria and Iraq where displaced families are still living under threat of violence and unable to return to their homes. The harsh reality is that their daily life is still a struggle for survival. These families have had to give up everything for their faithfulness to Christ. We are asking parishes once again to support these families in Syria and Iraq with Survival Packs – emergency aid to help them until it is safe for them to rebuild their lives and communities. If you wish to get involved in the charity, or if you wish to be a parish representative, please contact John on 07727442510, 020 8642 8668 or you can go online www.acnuk.org

Wanted: volunteer counters

We have a noble team of counters who count the collection each week, and also make sure that the different categories of income are accounted for. This work helps with the smooth running of the parish and helps ensure accountability for the income. The present team could do with two or three new members. Might this be you? Full training will be given. You should expect to set aside two hours for this on a weekday morning. A regular commitment is requested. Once you are familiar with the processes you would probably only be asked to come in once every two weeks.

November Remembrance

By ancient custom each year we offer Masses for our dear departed, and we present a book of remembrance at each Mass. Sheets for those to be remembered are now available.
