Dom will celebrate his very first Mass as a priest, at St Mary’s on Sunday 30th June at 11am. Deacon Dom will join us for all Masses on Sunday 16th June. If you would to go to Deacon Dom’s ordination and travel as a group to Westminster Cathedral using the tube, please put your name to the list at the back of the church.”

The Presbytery

The outside of the presbytery (the priests house) is at last getting a makeover! Windowsills are being repaired and painted, wooden panelling is being varnished, railings are being coated in black paint and the attic window is being replaced (before the old one falls out). The inside of the presbytery still needs re-decorating, but only after the reason for internal cracks and damp is discovered.

Day for Life

'The Lord is my shepherd - Compassion and Hope at the end of life'

On Sunday 16 June 2024 we celebrate the Day for Life. This year we focus on the theme of compassion and hope at the end of life as well as the reasons why the Church opposes the proposal to introduce assisted suicide or euthanasia. The day provides an opportunity for us to focus on the precious gift of life which opens out into the hope of eternal life at our earthly death. The Bishops' Conference has a dedicated section of their website on this topic:

Fr Peter is featured giving testimony to the importance of a natural death.

Altar Servers

So, would you like to be an Altar Server? Not only would you be helping Fr Peter but most importantly you would be serving the Risen Lord. What better service could you do? If you want to be an Altar Server and have made your First Holy Communion please get your parents to sign your name to the “sign up” sheet at the back of the church.

Confirmation Mass

Bishop John will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation to some of our young people at a special Mass on Friday 14th June at 7pm. All are welcome.

If you are unable to attend, you might like to pray for each candidate. Each is asking for a particular gift of the Holy Spirit (as well as all seven gifts).

John and Obi are asking for Fortitude,

Filip for Fear of the Lord,

Ashley is requesting Wisdom as are Jamie and Angelina.

James and Niccolo would like Understanding,

and Joshua is happy for all seven.

Please keep them in your prayers.

General Election

Gospel values inform how we look at the world as Christians. These values can also offer a different way of looking at politics, a way that puts the common good before self-interest.

Throughout this election season we should be seeking answers which will help the poor, the marginalised, and the vulnerable. We should seek a society in which all families can flourish and where we care for our common home, where we offer a welcoming hand to strangers in need, where we look out for those struggling to get on. Families are the heart of our communities and society.

We should seek, therefore, political leaders who can reflect and share these values. But this is not just about leaders, it is about us. We are not merely the passive recipients of politics but active citizens. An election is the best time for us as Christians to speak out, to get involved, and to lead.

There are copies of handouts in the church on seven issues you might consider when meeting local political party candidates, reading mandates or casting your vote.

Local hustings for the Finchley & Golders Green Seat are so far at:

• Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue - 19 June 2024 at 8 PM

• Finchley Reform Synagogue and the Somalia Bravenese Community  - 7.30pm on Monday 24th June at the Somali Bravanese Welfare Association.

• Alyth Synagogue Hustings - 27th June, time to be confirmed

Fr Peter is also putting questions to candidates via email and you will find this week’s question and answer on a separate sheet only available from the church.
