Parish “In Council”:

Fr Peter writes: “As we emerge from the pandemic we have a chance to rebuild our parish. A “parish in council” is a single meeting open to all parishioners where you can ask questions and suggest ideas about future activities, formation classes or meetings that you would like to see happen at St Mary’s. If you do make a suggestion, please be ready to help if your idea is adopted. The caveat is “please get involved.” It is not an opportunity to be unduly critical, but constructive – a good “building” term!

We shall meet in the Church at 7pm and our meeting will last no longer than 8:15pm (windows and doors will be open – please wear masks). The first 8 agenda points will be dealt with fairly quickly to leave plenty of time for “ideas”.

An additional time for Confessions & Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament:

Offertory Collection

Fr Peter writes: “The offertory collection in church for week ending 29th Aug was- £707.44.All contributions are greatly received, and I am very grateful for your continued support at this difficult time. Please do not forget, that arranging a standing order is the easiest way to support St Mary’s. Details are on the back of the newsletter.

A Request from the Foodbank:

As you may already know, in early October the government is planning to cut Universal Credit by £20 a week. This will leave 6 million families £1,040 worse off a year. For many, this money is the difference between keeping afloat and falling into serious poverty. You and the Foodbank have supported hundreds of families during the pandemic (and before) to get by on low incomes. This cut could mean even more people are in need of our help to avoid going hungry. Please write to Mike Freer (our local MP) to ask him to stop this cut.

First Holy Communion Celebrations:

Fr Peter writes: “This year’s First Holy Communions will be celebrated at the 10am and 12noon Mass on Sunday 19th September. Their Mass of thanksgiving will at 10am on Sunday 26th September. On these weekends you may like to attend the 5pm Mass on Saturday or 8:30am Mass on Sunday.

Secondary School Transfer Forms:

Fr Peter writes: “If your child needs their Catholic Certificates of Practice” stamped and signed, please attend one of the Sunday Masses with your child, bringing their secondary school transfer forms. Please make sure you have completed address and dates of birth before coming to see me.”

CAFOD Emergency Afghanistan Appeal:

Fr Peter writes: “the complicated situation in Afghanistan continues and CAFOD has just launched an emergency appeal to support refuges and humanitarian projects which remain in the country. The easiest way to donate to CAFOD and its emergency appeal is to follow the link:

Otherwise, please hand in your donation at Mass in an envelope titled “CAFOD EMERGENCY APPEAL / AFGHANISTAN”.
